Trailside teaching (From the Sun Journal 11/30/15)

Bianca McCarthy, right, and Michael Mullings, second from right, learn a building technique from Dan Bilodeau, second from left, as Angelo Sullivan tightens a drill bit at the Lake Auburn Community Center in Auburn on Monday afternoon. Bilodeau was helping Goodwill Take 2/AmeriCorps mentors teach students construction skills while helping to build a storage facility for snowmobiles and grooming equipment for the Perkins Ridge Sno-Travelers club around the old stone foundation of the former ice house at West Auburn Farm. The six-acre property, open year-round, connects to miles of groomed trails for activities, including snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and running. Thanks to a grant and support of numerous volunteers and private and corporate donations, the Auburn Planning Board has approved construction of several projects at the North Auburn Road location.
